Music Is The Life Of Your Wedding
Neil Smith, the owner and Spin Master of Dandy DJ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is our guest in this Sassy DIY Weddings Podcast. I thought that getting information from an expert in the entertainment industry would be a great tool for you to help you plan your entertainment for your upcoming wedding. After all, music sets the tone for the entire evening of events.
So okay…you have a guy (or lady) that can mix some music and keep your audience on the dance floor. But, do you have someone who can also serve as the Master of Ceremonies. If not…you’ll need to add this to your list…listen to Neil and he will explain why.
Now, even though we know this is a Do It Yourself podcast, we are also aware that some Brides may want to do certain parts of the wedding themselves and then hire out other areas of their wedding. So, if you are in need of a DJ and Master of Ceremony then you should contact Neil for more information. He says in the podcast that he travels anywhere for events within a 5 hour driving distance of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. But what if you’re not near Tennessee or don’t have the budget to hire a professional DJ and Master of Ceremony? Neil is going to share some Sassy Tips with us to get you on the right track for a very successful Wedding Ceremony and Wedding Reception.
Sassy Tip #01:
Grandma Leaves Early.
Yep…that’s Sassy Tip #01. Kind of brilliant isn’t it? Neil points out just how important it is to know your demographics. I’ll save most of his secrets for you to hear in The Podcast, but I really thought it was brilliant when he pointed out that Grandma leaves the wedding earlier than most of the other guests. So to make sure you have a fun party for all…start out with the more traditional “oldies” that most people, including Grandma, would be able to connect with. This gets the emotion of the party stirring early on in the event.
Sassy Tip #02:
An iTunes Tip for DIYers.
Basically what Neil shares with us here in the Podcast is that a DIY DJ Tip is to create an iTunes Playlist for each and every moment of the Wedding. From the Prelude List to the Bouquet Tossing List…have a step-by-step guide, using iTunes, to set the music to meet the mood of the event. This trick helps you avoid getting lost or overlooking an event. And, you have the music for each event right there at your fingertips in an organized system.
I also think that this is a good time to toss in there that I personally think now is the time to point out the importance of having a good Master of Ceremony. This person can, and will, be able to set the mood for each portion of your special night…turning it into and Event of A Lifetime.
Sassy Tip #03:
Working with a Microphone.
Neil recommends that a DIY DJ forgets using the microphone…due to all types of potential mishaps. Unless they REALLY know what they are doing, he highly recommends that you do not use a microphone. Yes, all types of technical difficulties can arise from using microphones if you’re not a trained professional using a microphone. So…just don’t use one.
Sassy Tip #04:
Ensure that your DJ has Insurance!!!
Listen in as Neil explains the importance of this Sassy Tip. Sometimes these are little details that only those professionals who deal with these events day in and day out are expected to know about. Don’t get stuck…
Sassy Tip #05:
Don’t Gamble with Mother Nature.
You have to be prepared for inclement weather…particularly rain and wind. These two particular weather elements could drastically affect your wedding and the party. So, be prepared with tenting to protect electrical equipment. Also, more importantly, be prepared to move your party inside a facility if weather warrants. This could be the life saver tip for you today…be prepared because in the end, if you don’t hire professionals, then you have to be the boss and get things done. This is not a step to miss.
Sassy Tip #06:
Keep it Simple.
Give it room to Breath. Let people relax and enjoy themselves and have conversations. Have fun, but don’t try to cram too many festivities into the evening. All words that Neil uses when he’s describing the atmosphere of one of his events.
Wedding Whoops:
Thank you Neil for this one….it’s good info:
When having a tent for your wedding or reception, make sure you also rent a floor. This is an easy mistake to fall prey to. You never plan for your wedding to be in the rain, so when you envision your outdoor wedding, it’s either beautiful sunshine or beautiful star striking evening. Never would you imagine rain…but, if it does rain and you have no flooring….you will now be walking in mud. Get Flooring!
