Alabama Crimson Tide
Today was a special day…the first game of the 2014/2015 University of Alabama Football Season! This is the day that so many die-hard Alabama Football Fans live for…the day they can don their Crimson Colors and just get crazy and have fun supporting their team that has won so many National Football Championships over the years.
This day starts a series of Alabama tribe-building events from cookouts, parties, pep rallies, displaying bumper stickers, flying flags, and the list goes on and on as to how the fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide celebrates their loyalty for the the University of Alabama and it’s Football Team lead by the infamous Head Coach Nick Saban. Now, I know you’re saying, “But Jerry, why does a football story belong here on a Flower Blog…” Right?
I live in Tennessee, but my Flower Shop, Bishop’s Flowers, is located in Huntsville, Alabama. And, when you’re in Alabama, you have one of two choices: 1) You’re an Alabama Fan or 2) You’re an Auburn Fan. It really doesn’t matter which one you are, because there are plenty of fans for both teams…so you will always find a place to fit in, but you better make one choice for sure! And, since I have so many clients that live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, I thought it was only right that I become a fan for The University of Alabama!!!
The Secret To Winning
Much like Nick Saban has to show his team how much he cares about them and their success, I too have to build a tribe of followers and show them how much I care about them. We need to connect on some level other than just a business level. Sure, I want people to buy my flowers, buy my products and hire me to speak at their events. But, on a much deeper level, I need my Tribe to know that I share with them the love of flowers and how flowers can create a common bond between each of them to create that Tribe atmosphere…giving them each a place who which they belong. Saban also says that your team has to “buy into your vision for their success” and I too feel that each time I post a blog article or video that I am contributing to someone learning more about something in which they are very passionate. And, I’m giving them the tips they need to become a better floral designer…even if it’s just a hobby. So why do I merge Alabama Football and the Art of Floral Design? It’s really very simple…
Each week that Alabama plays a football game I make sure that I am not only near a television to support my team, but I also make sure that I’m near my computer or at least my telephone so that I can upload photographs of my floral arrangements to Facebook. Throughout the week I will take photographs of my flowers and upload them into an editing program where I can add my Roll Tide Roll Text!!! And, then of course, I always add a small bit of text naming my flower shop, Bishop’s Flowers and the telephone number. This way, anytime people Share one of my photographs…my company name and telephone number goes along for the ride…building deeper roots with my Tribe and expanding my Visibility to build a larger Tribe of supporters.
The Crimson Ladies
Now, I have to admit that not ALL of my Designs By Jerry fans nor my Bishop’s Flowers fans are Alabama Crimson Tide Fans, but many of them are and they are a special group of ladies that love to cheer their team on each Saturday. Many of my loyal fans are also multi-tasking as the 3-4 hour game is on so I know that they are not only watching the game, but they are on Facebook chatting with their friends about the game as well.
I bring one more element of the game to them by posting one of my “special arrangements” each time the Alabama Team makes a score! And, some of The Crimson Ladies are also busy during the game and my posts keeps them up to date on what is going on during the game. They know when they see one of my pictures that Alabama just scored…a great way to show my loyalty to the Alabama Football Team and to my flower-loving fans.
You see, just like Nick Saban has a vision for his team of football players to succeed and win the National Championship, I too have a vision for my team. My vision is to teach my loyal fans how to be the best floral designers they can be. Maybe they just want to make flowers to display around the house when guests are coming over, or maybe they want to be able to make a small floral gift from time to time to give to friends, or maybe they want to be able to make the flowers for their own wedding that’s upcoming. No matter what the reason or how much detail my fans want to learn to design flowers, I feel like it’s my job to keep flowers in front of you as much as possible.
Not only do I want to keep my flower shop’s name visible to you, but I also want to keep flowers on the top of your mind so that you are always thinking about how you can use flowers to make someone’s day just a little more special. Whether you make them yourself or pick up the telephone and call me…I want you to know that nothing brings on a genuine smile more than the beauty of sharing flowers. And, for that reason, I have committed myself to merging the love of Alabama Football and the love of Flowers and creating my own Tribe of loyal followers.
Just so you know, even though it seemed like a slow start, (yes I was biting my finger nails for a while there) the University of Alabama Football Team pulled out a season-opening win today beating out their competitor West Virginia University with a final score of 33-23.
